How Our PEMF Device Scoring System Works

By Joshua Roberts - Updated on 2nd October 2025

After more than a decade of supplying PEMF devices, we’ve stepped away from direct sales but our mission to educate hasn’t changed. We know how confusing the world of PEMF can be, with bold marketing claims and conflicting information everywhere you look. That’s why we created our independent scoring system: a transparent, structured way to evaluate devices on their technology, usability, versatility, warranty, and price. By breaking down each product against clear criteria, we aim to give you an unbiased view that helps you compare options with confidence.

In some cases, we may earn a small commission if you choose to buy through our links, but this never affects our scoring. In fact, it often allows us to offer exclusive discounts, meaning you get the best price while still receiving fair, independent advice.

Programs

In this section, we look at the programs each device offers. Some products include only a single preset, while others provide a wider range designed for relaxation, focus, or sleep. Where useful, we’ll list all available programs so you can see exactly what’s included.

Scoring System Summary

Here you’ll find a quick overview of how each area scores in general. Scroll down for the full breakdown, where we explain the criteria behind each rating in detail.

Our Rating Formula

PEMF technology

How effective and up-to-date the device’s core PEMF design is.

Title

Useability

How easy the product is to set up, operate, and incorporate into daily life.

Title

Versatility

The range of ways the device can be used, such as multiple applicators, settings, or portability.

Title

Warranty

The level of manufacturer support and peace of mind offered through warranty length and cover.

Title

Price

How the device’s cost compares to its features, build quality, and the wider market.

Scoring System Breakdown

To keep our reviews clear and transparent, we assess each device across five main categories: PEMF Technology, Usability, Versatility, Warranty & Money-Back Guarantee, and Price. Each category is evaluated against measurable, real-world criteria such as coil design, waveform quality, set-up process, and portability to minimise opinion and focus on performance. This structured approach ensures every score reflects how the device actually functions in use, not just how it’s marketed. Devices earn stars for positive features and lose stars for limitations or design drawbacks. Scores are built up from 0, with each section capped between -5 and +5 stars to keep results balanced and directly comparable across all products.

PEMF Technology

Title

Intensity

Intensity refers to how strong the magnetic field is, measured in Gauss. All levels have their place and use cases, but medium intensity has been the most researched across a wide range of topics. That’s why it receives a higher score in our system.

Title

Intensity unknown

Low intensity (0-10 Gauss)

Medium intensity (10-100 Gauss)

High intensity (100+ Gauss)

Title

Frequency

PEMFs are emitted at various speeds per second, known as frequency (measured in Hz). Natural frequencies are thought to better encourage changes in brainwave states, while unnatural frequencies show less impact.

Title

Natural frequencies range (1-100Hz)

No natural frequencies range (100+ Hz only)

Title

Waveform

The waveform is the shape of the signal (e.g. square, sawtooth, sine). Faster-changing waveforms create a better slew rate and more effective induction, meaning you receive more healing microcurrents. For this reason, square and sawtooth waves score higher than slower waveforms like sine.

Title

Waveform unknown

Square/ sawtooth /delta wave

Sine/ others

Title

Coil Type

A commonly overlooked area of PEMF devices is the coils, which actually generate the magnetic field. Poorly designed coils can produce weak fields that don’t spread evenly across the body. Donut-shaped coils are the gold standard, while cheaper devices often use ferrite rods that create fields which drop off extremely quickly.

Title

Useability

Title

Customisation

Customisation looks at how much control you have over session settings such as time, intensity, frequency, and more. Devices with full flexibility allow you to tailor sessions to your needs, while those with limited or no options score lower as they restrict how PEMF can be used.

Title

Full customisable (intensity, frequency, time and more)

Limited customisation (intensity, frequency, time)

Limited customisation (2/3)

Some customisation (1/3)

No customisation

Title

Set-up

Set-up covers how easy a device is to get started with. Plug-and-play systems that require little effort score higher, while products that are complicated or time-consuming tend to be used less often and therefore score lower for usability. Devices that rely on Bluetooth also score lower, as we’ve consistently seen negative customer feedback with connection issues, not to mention the introduction of unnatural frequencies.

Title

Plug and play (No parameter adjustments needed to start)

Some effort (1–2 parameter adjustments needed before starting)

Complicated (3 or more parameter adjustments required before use)

Bluetooth connection to phone

Title

Versatility

Title

Type of application

Versatility looks first at how many ways a device can be applied. Systems that include both full-body and localised options score higher, while devices limited to a single type of application score lower as they restrict how PEMF can be used.

Title

2 types of application (simultaneous use)

2 types of application

1 type of application

Title

Power source

A key factor in versatility is how the device is powered. Rechargeable batteries add portability and convenience, while mains-only devices can be limiting. Those that offer both options score highest as they allow use at home or on the go.

Title

Mains power only

Rechargeable battery

Title

Portability

Portability looks at how easy a device is to move, store, or travel with. Lightweight systems, foldable mats, or devices that come with a carry case score higher, while heavy or bulky products score lower as they’re harder to use consistently in different settings.

Title

Easily portable (<5 kg)

Somewhat portable

Heavy/bulky (10 kg+)

Title

Warranty & Money-Back Guarantee

Title

Warranty

Warranty reflects the level of long-term protection offered by the manufacturer. A strong warranty shows confidence in the product’s build quality and provides users with peace of mind. Short or limited cover lowers a device’s score, while extended warranties earn higher marks.

Title

No warranty

6 month warranty

1-2 year warranty

3-5 years warranty

5 years warranty+

Title

Money back guarantee

A money-back guarantee is just as important, especially for new users who may want reassurance before committing. Longer guarantees allow people to properly test the device and see if it fits into their routine. Devices with no return option score lowest here, while extended guarantees score highest.

Title

No guarantee offered

14 days

30 days

60 days

90 days

90 Days+

Title

Price

Title

Price is assessed by weighing the cost of a device against its features, build quality, and performance. A higher price doesn’t always mean better technology, but fair value is important. Devices that balance strong specs with reasonable pricing score higher, while those that feel overpriced for what they offer score lower.

Title

Overpriced vs competitors

Fair for the features

Excellent value (cheaper and more advanced than average)

Conclusion

In our conclusion, we bring together the strengths and weaknesses highlighted in the review. This section should acknowledge what the device does well whether that’s portability, ease of use, or offering peace of mind through a strong warranty. It should also be honest about the areas where the product falls short, such as low intensity, limited customisation, or poor value for money.

We then look at the overall balance between performance and price, weighing up whether the device offers good value compared to others on the market. Finally, the conclusion includes the overall score or star rating, alongside a clear one-line verdict that helps readers quickly understand who the device is best suited for.
